The final week of The Nature Academy is all about Waterfalls. I wanted the finished result to look special, so instead of just pursuing realism I aimed for a more traditional image.
First I sketched out a concept, then created a split-complementary color scheme using Mudcube. I ran several fluid simulations to test functionality and the limits of my computer. Once the basics were mapped out I gradually added rocks, moss, plants, trees and textures.
The biggest hurdle was the computer crashes. Due to the millions of moss particles and high resolution fluid simulation, the computer was under constant strain. But after tweaking certain settings, I was able to optimize it to a point that it would run.
It was a long road, but I had fun :)
